The Canadian government has approved a temporary measure to allow 6,700 skilled temporary workers in Manitoba to continue working while their applications for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are processed. This initiative aims to support Manitoba's regional economic immigration goals and facilitate the transition of temporary residents to permanent residency.

Within two years, eligible foreign nationals are expected to receive official nominations from Manitoba and eventually become permanent residents. The measure addresses labor market needs by retaining skilled workers already contributing to the province's workforce.

Immigration Minister Marc Miller emphasized the government's commitment to stabilizing permanent immigration while reducing the percentage of temporary residents. This move aligns with Canada's priority of transitioning more temporary residents to permanent residency and meeting local labor demands.
